Think about what you think is important beforehand. After looking at the school website, you can visit the school during an open day. On the school's website find your more information. Then feel free to ask the questions you have.
In Amsterdam, there are rules and agreements to register children for primary school. To ensure that everyone has an equal chance of being placed at a school.

Most children start school from the age of 4. A child is subject to compulsory education from the age of 5. Then the child must attend school. Compulsory education lasts until the age of 16. More information on compulsory education can be found here.
Er its different types of primary schools. Some schools are 'special' because they teach based on a faith, philosophy of life or educational concept. The school where your child is notified has duty of care. This means that together see which help your child needs. The school looks at whether the school who can give extra help themselves. The school may, if necessary a Support Team apply to our partnership.
All schools offer help that many pupils need. Examples include help with dyslexia and help for pupils who learn faster or more difficult. This help is called the basic support.
If your child needs more help, or help that is very specific, this is called extra support. This help varies from school to school. Every year, a school makes a plan about the help at school. In this plan, the school support profile, states what support is available and how it is organised. The school support profile can be found on the school website. Sometimes it is also called 'care plan'.
In practice, it is often difficult to get a good idea, based on a plan on paper, of what the school can actually offer in terms of help for your child. For this, it is best to meet the school in person. This can be done on an open day for a general introduction.
Yes, it is allowed. If a school can prove that the class is full, the school has no duty of care.

Is your child not yet attending a school? Then you can report directly to the school for special (primary) education. This school can involve the experts of our partnership in a Support team. Do you have important information from the pre-school, for example? Please share that with the school.
If there is a good reason for it, it can sometimes be done. Discuss this with the pre-school or childcare centre.
