My child is discussed in the Support Team

If help for your child does not help enough, school organises a Support Team (OT). This team includes the internal supervisor, parents and your child's teacher. Together, you look at what your child needs in order to develop better. During the OT, you discuss together what help your child needs and look for the best support or educational place.

Thinking along about what your child needs

If necessary, the school can invite other professionals. Such as the (upper school) advisor on appropriate education (APO) or the parent and child advisor (OKA). Are you, as the OT, at a loss for words? Despite the extra support organised for the pupil and teacher? Then the school can ask the cooperation association (SWV) to think along. The SWV's education advisor and social expert then help. They look at your child, the school and the home situation. And consider together with the team which help fits best. They discuss different possibilities and what can be expected from everyone. The SWV also looks at the offer in the district and can call in other specialists when needed.

What we are going for:

'All pupils deserve a good education with appropriate help and support. Preferably close to home. Together we build inclusive education where there is a nice place for every child, because everyone counts! We want children to grow up safe, to learn and to develop to their full potential.'

Is a school for special (primary) education a better fit?

If the school thinks special (primary) education (SO or SBO) is best for your child, the school organises a Support Team. There we discuss together how the registration can proceed. An admission statement (TLV) is required for a place at the SBO or SO. Two experts from the SWV help determine what your child needs and which educational place best suits it.

In the OT, we think together with you, the school and other members of the OT. Sometimes we look at your child in class, but only if you agree and if more information is needed. If the OT decides that your child fits best at a SO or SBO, the director-director of the SWV issues the TLV. You and the school receive a copy of this declaration and the experts' advice. This allows you to register your child at the school that best suits your child.

Questions and answers

The school uses a document to keep track of your child's growth and development (development perspective). In it, they write about the discussions they have had with you about how your child is doing at school and whether special (primary) education may be required. This document shows how your child is doing at school, what help has already been given and whether this has helped. If the school wants to include additional documents, such as a psychological test, they will need your permission to do so.

You can share your views with the school's internal supervisor. Your views will be noted in the development perspective. You may also write a piece yourself, school will add it to the application.

The school does not have to change the information in the development perspective at your request. However, you can add extra information to the application to make your point of view clear. The school must enclose this extra information with the application.

You can also explain your views during the meeting with our partnership's social expert and education advisor, even if the application is already in process.
Does school want to include information from other parties (such as research reports)? This is only allowed if you have given them permission to do so.

School may also apply to our partnership for a support team without your permission. However, in doing so, they must follow certain rules. In order for your opinion and vision to be properly expressed, it is important that you engage with us as soon as the application is pending. You cannot stop the application, but you can ensure that it becomes clear what your child needs. Our experts will take this into account in their advice on which type of school or extra support is best for your child.
